Manipulation for Knee Pain

Overview
While some patients do benefit from manipulation of the knee, it is not recommended for acute problems. Manipulation under anesthesia (MUA) has been shown to be effective for some conditions.
Treatment Ratings
RISK: 4/5
Risks for manipulation under anesthesia include the usual risks from anesthesia, and risks of further injury from manipulation under anesthesia. MUA (manipulation under anesthesia) is typically performed for stiffness in the joint following total knee arthroscopy. Risks for manipulation, such as chiropractic manipulation, are also thought to be rare.
